Gibson F-4 Mandolin, Vintage 1942
  • Played by David Grisman on the Original Tone Poems CD
  • Elevated Fretboard as in the F-5
  • Mandola Sized Peghead w/ Loar Style Logo and Inlay
  • Near Mint, All Original

Product Description

One of the last and rarest F-4s, this one is the only 2-point F-4 on the original Tone Poems project, played by Dawg on the "Tone Poems" CD, on Watson Blues. It also has unique features: an elevated fingerboard, Loar-style flowerpot inlay on the mandola-sized headstock, and is in near mint all-original (including its hard shell case) condition, with a beautiful sunburst finish on top and a chocolate brown stained maple back and sides. Even rarer, it has a bound peghead with the early style slanted "The Gibson" pearl logo. These are known to sound particularly good, and this one agrees - it's deep and throaty, with low action.
