Raffaele Tieri Tenor Guitar, Vintage 1930
  • Four-String Tenor Guitar
  • Converted from Six String by Tieri
  • One of the Italian Immigrant Luthiers in New York

Product Description

Raffaele Tieri was a member of the community of Italian luthiers who made stringed instruments in New York City in the early to mid 20th century. He started out in Naples, but moved to New York in the 1920s, working in a shop close to John D?Angelico's famous guitar shop. He was a creative and experienced builder, doing many different and unique styles and models. This is not one of those builders that cling to a few well developed models with only minor variations. Here?s an exquisitely made cutaway tenor that started out as a 6 string instrument, possibly done by Tieri during construction, since it is definitely a tenor scale length (22 1/2?). The back and sides appear to be koa, the top is spruce. This rare (unique!) instrument is in fine playing condition, with some wear surrounding its white pickguard. It's loud and open sounding with a comfortable neck, low action and frets that look almost new.
