An explanation of the Schoenberg model names: Soloist is the 14-fret body, Standard is the 12-fret model. Both come in 00 or 000 size, with or without cutaway, and in various tonewood combinations. We are now producing totally hand-made instruments. The main body of instruments are being made in Petaluma, CA, by Bruce Sexauer. Bruce has been building guitars for thirty years, and has a phenomenal amount of skill and experience. We have developed a close relationship over the five years I've been here in Marin and have been sharing ideas on music and guitar construction to mutual edification and entertainment. For my part, I am thrilled that Bruce is as interested as I am in the concepts that go into the Schoenberg guitars and in the wonderful quality that our first guitars have shown. Robert Anderson, of Victoria, British Columbia, is an old friend and wonderfully skilled guitarist and builder. He has been building the 00 Soloist (14-fret 00 with OM neck) model for some time. The latest one belongs to Jaimie Findlay, the great Southern California beebop fingerstyle guitarist. For finish, Robert uses only French polish, a beautiful old world finish that is applied by a meticulous process of hand rubbing. It's more fragile than modern lacquers, sounds better hypothetically, and is way more healthy for the applier. Explanation of body styles: |
